Ntare school has been closed over attempted lynching of fellow students.

Students in non-candidate classes were on Wednesday sent home following a riot on Tuesday night.
The riot is said to have started after some students attempted to lynch their colleagues for allegedly practicing homosexuality.

Only candidate classes of Senior Four and Six remain at the school to proceed with mock examinations.
However, the school administrators refuted claims of homosexuality. The head teacher,Mr Jimmy Turyagyenda, said the students wanted to punish their colleagues for stealing uniforms and school sweaters.

“Two students were picked from Creighton House accused of stealing students’ property and the dormitory members wanted to forcefully punish them but information leaked to us and they were blocked by the teachers,” said Mr Turyagyenda.

Allegations
However, students who preferred anonymity said it all started when two boys were caught engaging in unnatural sex in Creighton House.

When the students attacked the duo some teachers intervened and took them away and were later suspended.
But students were not satisfied with the administration’s action against the two.

They preferred that all those students that were suspected to be practicing homosexuality are dismissed
Daily Monitor could not independently establish their number.
Sources at the school say that when the administrators refused to expel the suspected gay students, their colleagues who disapprove of the practice turned rowdy.

This prompted the teachers to seek police intervention.
The situation at the school remained tense throughout the night and Wednesday morning.
At some point police unleashed tear gas to disperse the furious students.

The suspended students will report today (Friday) to pick their end of term reports.
Mbarara District Police Commander Mr Jaffari Magyezi said police will remain deployed at the school premises until there is maximum peace.
