A Kenyan gay couple were evicted from their home in Nairobi because of their sexual orientation and told by the landlord to “go wait for your Obama,” as tensions rise over U.S. President Barack Obama’s upcoming visit to the African nation this month. Peter, 26, and John, 29, had told their landlord and neighbors they were living together as friends to save money. But rumors spread that they were actually a homosexual couple and the two were forced from their home on Friday, where they had been living for the past two years, a Kenyan LGBT activist told Gay Star News on Wednesday.

“There have been more beatings, evictions and attacks when public discourse focuses on the community. It gets heightened and it will only increase momentum as Obama’s visit gets closer,” said Denis Nzioka, who last year launched the website Watetezi, which tracks human rights injustices against the LGBT community in Kenya.

Morocco jails three men for homosexuality

Three men accused of homosexuality have been sentenced to three years in prison by a court in Morocco.

Two of the men, a mechanic in his 40s and a man in his 20s, were “caught in the act” in the mechanic’s workshop by police acting on a tip-off, AFP reports.

They were arrested and during their detention they said they had met through a mutual friend, who was also arrested, and admitted having sexual relations.

Hassan Ammari of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights (AMDH) told AFP the sentence was handed down on Friday (May 22) by a court in the city of Taourirt.

Moroccan authorities have declined to comment on the arrests. Though homosexuality is illegal in the Islamic north-African state, convictions under the legislation have historically been reasonably rare.

The sentence is the harshest Moroccan courts can issue for same-sex sexual relations, where article 489 of Morocco’s penal code states that any one found guilty of carrying out “a deviant act with a person of the same sex” can be jailed for between six months and three years or issued with a fine.

In March, Human Rights Watch called on Morocco to decriminalise homosexuality, saying that “criminalising consensual, adult homosexual conduct violates international human rights law”.

It noted that article 24 of Morocco’s 2011 constitution states that “all persons have the right to protection of their private life”.

“This right, absent in the previous constitution, should lead to the abolition of the law criminalising consensual same-sex conduct,” it said.

Last year, British man Ray Cole was arrested and sentenced to four months in prison after explicit images were found on his phone by Moroccan authorities.

Cole was later released from prison after his family lodged an appeal, describing the experience as “hell on Earth”.

Fans argued the singing superstar was triggering people of faith, knowing they would be upset by the picture. Others said it was a positive message and should be celebrated.

‘Islam doesn’t support homosexuality and if someone doesn’t like that then they don’t have to be Muslim. Its that’s simple,’ one said.

But others argued: ‘This is beautiful. Love should never be forbidden!!’

And another added: ‘I don’t understand all the ppl here say it’s not possible I’m Jewish from Israel my boyfriend is Arab Muslim and we live together for 3 years now!’

This isn’t the first time Madonna has connected homosexuality and the conflict between Jews and Muslims.

During her Confessions tour, she had two male shirtless dancers on stage during Forbidden Love. One was painted with a Muslim star and crescent on his chest and the other had a Star of David. While they appear to ‘fight’ throughout the song, they embrace at the end.

US LGBT Envoy To visit Uganda In July – Gay Vegas

WASHINGTON — The U.S. State Department’s newly-appointed special envoy for LGBT rights, Randy Berry, is planning a visit to Uganda in July, a State Department spokesperson confirmed to BuzzFeed News.

The State Department could not immediately provide further details of the trip or what Berry hoped to accomplish in a visit to the country at the center of one of the longest running international confrontations over LGBT rights. Ugandan and American LGBT activists have previously criticized the U.S. response to the passage of a sweeping anti-LGBT law in 2014 for being slow and sending missed messages, but the law wasstruck down in August of that year. Attempts to restore the law have so far failed to gain traction in the face of apparent opposition from President Yoweri Museveni.

Berry, who was selected for the post in February and began work in April, will first be doing swings through Latin America and Europe in the coming weeks, said the State Department spokesperson. Berry told attendees at an event at the Human Rights Campaign on Tuesday that he planned to visit more than 15 countries in the next month, according to a source in the room.

On Tuesday, the State Department announced that Berry will fly to Jamaica on Thursday, which has some of the highest rates of anti-LGBT violence in the region.

“A Prayer for Uganda” highlights the teachings of people like Pastor George Oduch, a Christian Fundamentalist who has taken his lead from anti-gay American Pastor Scott Lively. They attempt to educate Ugandans about how there’s “no difference between a terrorist and a homosexual,” and that homosexuality is just like pedophilia.

We see that young children are taught that a man who is with a man or a woman with a woman will be punished by the “10 different cancers that attack only homosexuals.” Plays are performed with a female student pretending to be a lesbian who pays her female classmate to have sex with her. It ends with her cradling her stomach in the fetal position on the ground crying, “I can never produce!”

“If a woman gets homosexuality with another woman, she cannot give birth,” a young girl tells Isobel.

The young Ugandans repeat what they are lectured in school and in church, but also in their communities, as the adults are even worse. In a repulsive scene, Isobel talks with a group of men about Ugandan culture.

“The first thing we hate is homosexuality,” a man tells Isobel. “If we find a woman with a woman, we pull out one and we do it to her. We have sex with her. We cannot allow a woman to have sex with a fellow woman.”

“Have you ever raped a lesbian?” Isobel asks.

“Yeah. Serious raping. Yes, because when it’s woman to woman, then it means you need real sex. And we get you a man who is seriously needing a woman and they rape you seriously. Woman and woman we rape, man and man we kill.”
